There are nearly double the number of appetizers as entrees offered on their early summer menu. The waitstaff is well-trained and attentive, and the ambiance is convivial. Figs at 29 Fair has an extended entrée section, and the famous Figs traditional and eclectic pizzas are not yet offered due to the challenge of installing the special pizza oven in a 300-year-old building. We favor the front room but each has its own appeal, and the newly expanded side dining room is more spacious yet still romantic. In the three centuries since it was built, 29 Fair has been owned by just four families and each took pains to preserve the original structure: the walls are wood paneled, the old pine “kings” board floors have a slight tilt and a friendly creak, and the original cook fireplace still dominates the candlit back dining room. Dining here is like stepping into the past - it looks just how you might image a romantic version of old Nantucket. Two tree-lined blocks off Main Street, 29 Fair was built 300 years ago as two homes later joined: one built in 1709 by Captain George Bunker and the other in 1711 by his brother. No other restaurant on Nantucket can offer the sought-after combination of past and present-authentic historical ambiance and contemporary culinary creations-that can be enjoyed in the new Figs at 29 Fair.
